HAZMAT transportation legislation

According to Tim Mauck, the county transportation liaison, the state legislature has proposed a bill to study the best possible routes for HAZMAT trucks through the Interstate 70 mountain corridor.

SB19-032, as introduced, would authorize a public highway authority or a governmental partner in a public-private partnership to apply to the Colorado State Patrol for a new or modified hazardous materials route designation for a road or highway that it directly or indirectly maintains.

County looks to hire census coordinator

With fewer federal dollars than usual allocated for the 2020 census, local governments will have to pick up the slack, county staff said. Thus, Clear Creek hopes to partner with municipalities and other entities to raise funds and apply for grant dollars to hire a temporary census coordinator.

USFS prepping for controlled burn near Empire

On Aug. 15, the U.S. Forest Service hosted U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, who represents the 2nd Congressional District, for a tour of Forest Service land, including Empire’s Blue Creek area.

County Commissioner Randy Wheelock met Neguse and the Forest Service representatives when they briefly stopped in the area, which will be the site of a planned prescribed burn in the coming weeks.

DA’s Office starts adult diversion program

The Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced it is forming an adult diversion program to give people an opportunity to repair any damage they caused and find accountability in a structured setting outside of the court system.

County’s 2018 audit shows healthy internal controls


Despite the county’s finance department having three people at the helm in 2018, Clear Creek’s finances didn’t have any weaknesses or deficiencies last year, an auditing team reported.

Staff training for community engagement website
At least one Clear Creek County staff member is in training to build and use a site where local officials can engage with the community on various projects and major issues, according to County Manager Keith Montag.

Short-term rentals update
A timeline to ensure that all unpermitted short-term rentals in unincorporated Clear Creek County are in compliance in a timely fashion has been set by staff members.

Coroner’s Office fully staffed
Three new deputy coroners were sworn into office earlier this month, giving County Coroner Chris Hegmann a complete team for the first time in several years.

County prepares census outreach, warns of scams
Clear Creek staff members are warning people of scams and frauds associated with the 2020 census.

KYGT’s 25th anniversary honored
This week is officially KYGT Radio Week in Clear Creek County as the station marks its 25th anniversary. Its first broadcast was Feb. 5, 1995.

County submits referral comments for Argo plan
Clear Creek staff had mostly informative and non-controversial comments about the Argo Gold Mill’s final development plan, Planning Director Fred Rollenhagen said.
