Georgetown went to the dogs on Saturday as the inaugural Mardi Paws got underway with a parade through downtown.
“Happy Mardi Paws,” Joe “MoJo” Lucas, an organizer of the event, shouted as the parade with a dozen dogs and their owners moved along Sixth Street. “Let’s wake this town up!”
Some dogs and their owners were in costume, ready for the costume contest, and the dogs ranged from a tiny Chihuahua to a large St. Bernard and Great Dane.
The event, sponsored by the Majestic Krewe of Mountain Mutts, allowed dogs and their owners to socialize, plus it raised awareness and money for veterans organizations.
