Jeffco Schools moves toward June budget adoption

Ahead of June when the proposed $1.2 billion budget will be finalized, the Jeffco Public Schools board had some tough conversations during last Thursday’s meeting about the district’s finances and how to prioritize spending for the upcoming school year.

Among other things, the budget for the 2019-20 school year includes $17.2 million in teacher compensation increases and $6 million for cost-of-living raises. Jeffco’s budget also includes a number of cabinet requests such as an ongoing cost of $77,465 to add custodial staff at three schools receiving building additions and an ongoing cost of $659,380 for dropout safety nets, which maintain programming that provides pathways for students that have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out.
