Ron Sarrasin first rode past the Blue Jay Inn near Buffalo Creek more than a decade ago, and the historic building immediately caught his eye.
With the help of his son, Ron is revamping the historic inn and will reopen it as a bed and breakfast later this year. Although there will be modern amenities, Ron and Tracey plan to preserve the inn’s remarkable history and keep the Blue Jay’s spirit alive.
Originally, the inn, built around 1886, was a boarding house for loggers and miners in the Buffalo Creek area. When John Jerome acquired it in 1900, he renamed it the Blue Jay Inn.
Later, it was purchased by the Girls’ Friendly Society, who operated the inn as a summer retreat for working girls, students and church workers, according information from Historic Jeffco.
Because the property is on the National Register of Historic Places, the Sarrasins are required to maintain its character. But its rich history is part of the reason the couple fell in love with the property, and they have no plans to change it.
