Georgetown’s Heritage Center may be an old school, but for a few hours on Saturday, the center went really old school — all the way back to 1874.

There were lessons written out on blackboards, students using dip pens, and youngsters playing hopscotch and hoops outside in dresses and bonnets.

On Saturday, multiple organizations hosted the inaugural 1874 School Day as a way of honoring the former schoolhouse and to celebrate arts, culture and history, said Elysia Smith of the Georgetown Heritage Center & Cultural Arts Program.

Dozens of people stopped by to see the building immersed in its schoolhouse roots, which included an 1874-era classroom, silent movies, exhibits on Georgetown history and Georgetown Community School students’ projects on display.
