Hours before the community gathered Saturday in Pine Grove for the 32nd annual Rhubarb Festival, one of her goats had a baby. And in true Pine Grove fashion, Boyer, a rhubarb bake-off judge, named it Ruby in honor of the festival she’s come to love.
The Rhubarb Festival, a celebration of the tart red and green plant, serves as a fundraiser for the Pine Elk Creek Improvement Association with a portion of the proceeds going to the North Fork Volunteer Fire Department. The event, hosted at North Fork Fire station 2, features live music, community vendors, a pancake breakfast, a parade and delicious rhubarb treats galore.
Boyer, who moved to the Sphinx Park area in 2012, is always amazed at the kinship felt amongst the Pine Grove community, particularly when it comes to the Rhubarb Festival. Everyone plays a role in making it happen.
