Red Barn rezoning case returns to county

A rezoning proposal that would allow overnight lodging at the Red Barn in Marshdale is making its way through Jefferson County’s planning process again thanks to a significant change that allows the applicants to obtain a rehearing.

Steve and Lisa Stucky, who’ve owned and operated the Red Barn as an event center for four years, applied last year to renovate a former school building on the property to have overnight lodging for up to 40 guests. They’ve modified that plan to allow 20 lodgers in a maximum of five lodging rooms and to designate an office as an accessory dwelling unit. They’ve also proposed restricting operations from April to November and would add noise restrictions.

During a community meeting, held Thursday at the Wulf Recreation Center, residents continued to voice concerns about the project, including its impact on the area’s water supply and the enforceability of some of its stipulations, such as the offseason and the number of guests allowed.
