Multiple agencies have controlled and now are working to contain the Red Elephant Hill wildland fire north of Dumont, which started around 2:40 p.m. Thursday.

Handcrews will finish work on the perimeter while helicopters drop water on hotspots. No structures have been threatened, and no injuries have been reported, the Clear Creek Fire Authority confirmed.
As of 10:30 a.m. Friday, the Red Elephant Hill fire had burned 10 acres of private property on very steep terrain and was about 20 percent contained. Authorities hope to have the fire completely contained by Friday evening.
According to the Clear Creek Sheriff's Office, the fire appears to be accidental and human-caused.
