Conifer HS fields getting facelift

After years of wear and tear from the sometimes harsh mountain weather patterns, the Conifer High School athletic fields are finally getting a makeover.

“The demands that are placed on our athletic fields today because of the number of sports and everything else, grass fields just don’t hold up,” said Tim Reed, Jeffco Public Schools’ executive director of facilities and construction management. “That’s why we want to migrate to all-turf fields at the high schools. In the case of Conifer, we’re putting one in at West Jeff Middle School too because there’s no water up there to irrigate.”

As part of the project, the football field, softball field, baseball field, tennis courts and track will be replaced. Reed says Jeffco plans to complete construction by the fall, so it won’t impede football, softball and boys tennis seasons.

But it’s not just Conifer and West Jeff.

Over the summer, Jeffco Public Schools will replace the outdoor athletic facilities at eight schools, including Evergreen, Chatfield and Dakota Ridge. Once that’s wrapped up, the district will work on redesigning the interior of the schools, namely for renovations and security purposes.
