Through Faithfully K9, Conifer resident helps transform dogs into service animal

John Jackson has trouble sleeping at night.


As a Marine Corps veteran battling post-traumatic stress disorder, he’s often plagued with nightmares. He’s used to waking up multiple times in a “vicious cycle” of distress.

But that’s where Sierra comes in. His 5-year-old German shepherd service dog is trained to wake him up in the middle of the night if he’s having a nightmare. The dog will nudge Jackson in his chest and face until he rouses.

He attributes Faithfully K9, a Conifer-based service dog training organization run by Cathy Kowalski, for connecting the pair and helping train Sierra to provide support in a variety of scenarios.
