While Elise was excited to meet her new teacher, not everyone shared her enthusiasm.
Fifth-grader Dayton said he wasn’t looking forward to summer ending and a new school year starting, although his sister Lexi, a first-grader, was excited to have a brand new teacher.
But their mom, Amber Dillard of Empire, said she was happy to see the progress GCS had made and the direction it was going. Similarly, Elise’s mom, Colleen Miller of Idaho Springs, said how grateful she was to the community and the teachers for their continual work to help the students.
With seven new staff members and 10 new families, school director Tina Ozee said she hoped it would help rejuvenate the school and bring new ideas. This year, she added, the school wants to emphasize the students’ involvement in the community, as well as the parents’ involvement in the school.
