After thunderstorms and approximately 4 inches of hail shut down sections of both Interstate 70 and U.S. Highway 6 on Friday afternoon, Colorado State Patrol now says a weather-related rockfall has closed I-70 at the bottom of Floyd Hill.

Authorities are working to clear the route, stating that there are rocks on the roadway and more are loose on the cliff above I-70 near mile marker 244.

WB I-70 TO REMAIN CLOSED OVERNIGHT.

Due to rock on west side of Floyd Hill, all traffic is being diverted off at exit 244 and right back off on. So slow going. US 6 will remain closed for while between Colo 119 and the I-70 Junction.

BEST ALTERNATE ROUTE: US 285 to Colo 9.

Per CSP 1hr ago:
Westbound I-70 will be opening at Floyd Hill.
@ColoradoDOT geotechs say we are good to go. Closure at exit 244 will be lifted by 6:30 !!

While we have your attention, is it to soon to bring up the new traction law for two-wheel drive vehicles?
