New Marshdale principal feels he’s hit the jackpot

Marshdale Elementary principal Zak Martin’s path to becoming an educator took several twists and turns, and now he’s happy to have landed at the helm of the school.


Martin, who began as a broadcast sports journalism major, wound up with an undergraduate degree in kinesiology with plans to become a physical therapist. But work with AmeriCorps, a nonprofit that provides service opportunities around the country, led him to seeing the importance and value of education, so he earned a degree in education. He has been a teacher, assistant principal and principal at other schools in Jeffco.
