Clear Creek teacher connects with youth at 9/11 ceremony

This year’s 9/11 commemoration in Idaho Springs was about connecting with kids.


That’s because many of the children in schools today weren’t born when terrorists attacked the Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and when passengers thwarted an attack on the Capitol by crashing a plane in Pennsylvania.

So Troy Erickson, the county’s veteran’s services officer, asked Tina Matthew, a Clear Creek High School social studies teacher and Air Force veteran, to speak at the ceremony on Sept. 11 in Citizen’s Park.
