While the entire Virginia Canyon Mountain Park is a conceptual design for now, Idaho Springs staff members hope in a few years’ time it will be a reality.
The Idaho Springs City Council adopted the final plan for the park at its Sept. 9 meeting and approved moving forward with a Colorado Parks & Wildlife grant application for $250,000. If successful, the city will use the funds to start building the first 3.5 miles of trails — or Phase I — next summer, City Planner Alan Tiefenbach said.
One possible hiccup in this year’s application process, Tiefenbach told the City Council, is obtaining access easements from the Argo Gold Mill before the grant deadline in early October.
