Mountain Genealogists Society says learning about the past a gratifying pastime

Genealogy is like a treasure hunt — and the reward is finding family members and learning their stories.


That’s the thrust of the Mountain Genealogists Society, which is celebrating its 25th year of helping its members and others in the community learn about their ancestors. They say the work is addicting.

“Don’t blame us if you get up at 3 a.m. to look something up,” said Mary Dickhoff, a member for 19 years. “For most of us, it’s just stories about ‘what ever happened to.’ Success is energizing.”
