Farm-fresh eggs, rhubarb, make-your-own salsa, zucchini bread — the farmers market at West Jefferson Elementary School had it all.
Many of the items sold at the farmers market on Saturday were grown by students in the school’s garden. They came to school on a beautiful fall morning to share their products with the community.
Although the garden has been around for several years, Hoy had the idea to take it to the next level two years ago after visiting another community farmers market. The students tried it out last year, and after having success, decided to make it a tradition. Last year, Hoy said they raised just under $1,000. They hoped to do the same this year and plan to donate half of the funds raised to hurricane relief and save half for garden upkeep.
