When Jordan Tal saw an example of a smoker’s heart during a virtual reality activity at school, she was shocked.
“I had to take the headset off,” the West Jefferson Middle School student said.
That visceral reaction is part of what inspired Tal and her fellow Girl Scouts — Sarah Carter, Natasha Marion, Eloise Toussaint and Audrey VanWestrienen — to take on teen vaping as their Silver Award project. A Silver Award is the highest a Scout can earn, and it requires making a change in the community. Alongside Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper and Khahn Nguyen with Jeffco Public Health, the mountain-area Girl Scouts hope to do just that.
