FarmHER: Conifer resident among growing number of female farmers

It’s a typical morning at Mountain Woods Farm, and Renee Woods is up with the rooster’s crow — literally.

As the sun begins its colorful ascent, Woods begins her daily ritual. She feeds her inside dogs and heads outside to start her chores. Though the animals cycle in and out, she is typically responsible for dozens of chickens, Nigerian dwarf goats, Highland cattle, Southdown babydoll sheep and her two livestock guardian dogs, MaeDae and Eddie.

It’s all in a day’s work for the Conifer resident, who is the sole proprietor of the farm. At Mountain Woods Farm, she sells farm-fresh eggs, fresh goat’s milk via herdshare as well as the chickens and goats she raises. She also makes products such as lotion and soap, and her family and friends are partial to her delectable homemade goat’s milk ice cream. She started selling products to her neighbors, but the business spread quickly through word-of-mouth and Woods’ comical posts on social media.

Her farm’s mission? Love the animals; feed the community.
