Parents frustrated that Kidz Korner was closed with no backup plan

Parents whose children attended the Clear Creek Recreation District’s Kidz Korner program in Idaho Springs are frustrated that the rec district had no backup plan when it closed the school on Wednesday.

About 40 community members, including many parents with children in Kidz Korner, attended Wednesday night’s rec district board meeting. They voiced their frustration that the district terminated the program’s director, Nicole McGrath, calling her an asset to the community.

While district board President Dan Ebert said the district legally can’t discuss why McGrath was terminated, he clarified that it had nothing to do with her interactions with the kids. The rec district informed parents on Tuesday night that the before- and after-school program would be closed indefinitely beginning Wednesday morning because it no longer has a licensed director on staff.
