Idaho Springs staff members are verifying signatures on a petition to recall Mayor Mike Hillman after the form submitted to the city on Friday had 150 signatures, nearly twice the number required to prompt a recall election.
Only 77 verified signatures — 25 percent of the number of votes Hillman received the last time he ran for election in 2017 — were required for the recall process to continue. If city staff verifies the signatures are those of registered Idaho Springs voters by Thursday, the City Council will decide at its Jan. 13 regular meeting when to schedule a recall election, according to City Administrator Andy Marsh. An election must be held within 30 to 90 calendar days after that meeting.
