County commissioners want to build a public shooting range on the former rodeo grounds in Dumont and are considering a partnership with the adjoining Clear Creek County Sportsmen Club to run both ranges.
The county’s shooting range will fulfill a requirement that it must be built before dispersed recreational shooting closures on U.S. Forest Service land north of Interstate 70 go into effect.
Commissioners have contracted with Florida-based C. Vargas & Associates to design a sport shooting complex and develop a business and maintenance plan for long-term operation, county staff explained.
