Five years ago, Quinlyn Richard forgot her shoes when she did the annual Evergreen Lake Plunge, and Karl Zillgitt lent her his towel to stand on while they waited in line. Now, they’re preparing to take the plunge of wedded bliss together.
The Floyd Hill residents returned to the event on Jan. 1 where — shortly before plunging into the pond behind the Buchanan Recreation Center — Zillgitt got down on one knee and proposed. Richard accepted, and their first act as an engaged couple was to plunge into the cold water together.
