County hires census coordinator, gears up for 2020 count

In a few short months, people will be filling out their 2020 census forms, and local officials want to ensure that everyone in Clear Creek is counted.

Fewer federal funds are being put toward this year’s census compared with previous ones, county staff members and elected officials previously said. And because Clear Creek is a smaller county, getting an accurate count is even more crucial to receive federal funding for schools, medical programs, infrastructure and other items.

This is why several local entities have put up about $24,000 of their own money, along with a $50,000 grant from the Department of Local Affairs, to hire Johnson and spread the word about this year’s count, County GIS Director Matt Taylor explained.
