If you’ve ever wondered where roadkill ends up, just ask Erica Duplan.

As an animal control officer with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Duplan is responsible for picking up dead animals in yards or streets throughout unincorporated Jefferson County.

But that’s certainly not all a Jeffco Sheriff’s Office animal control officer does. Jefferson County Animal Control has jurisdiction on animal control issues in unincorporated Jeffco, handling everything from animal abuse investigations to leash law enforcement, rabies control, dead animal removal and barking dog regulations.

Every day on the job looks a lot different, and that’s part of why Duplan loves it.
