People who disagree politically have more in common than they think, and that’s important to remember when discussing polarizing issues, experts told Evergreen residents at a townhall meeting Saturday morning.

“More and more communities are changing the culture on the local level, so people can join together to solve problems,” Martin Carcasson, a Colorado State University communications professor, told nearly 100 people who attended the meeting.

The meeting was hosted by state Sen. Tammy Story, D-Conifer, state Rep. Lisa Cutter, D-Southwest Jeffco, and Jeffco Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper. They plan similar meetings every other month to engage their constituents in issues facing the area.

“Process matters,” Carcasson explained. “How we engage each other matters.”
