Jeffco initiative hopes to expand, improve early childhood education

A new plan provides a blueprint for expanding the capacity and quality of early childhood education in Jefferson County.

Called the Jeffco Bright Futures Roadmap, the plan is the culmination of more than a year of work by 43 people in the public and private sectors. The group represented a variety of interests, including local government, business, education, health care and families, with a shared understanding that the county flourishes when children and families thrive.

Funding from the Rose Community Foundation and the Community First Foundation allowed the steering committee to hire Early Milestones, a Denver-based nonprofit to consult on the project.

“It moves into a real operational and logistical phase next, and then there will be a phase after that that is around identifying and securing the necessary resources to accomplish these goals,” Glass said. “And then the final phase will be implementation.
