Jefferson County is gearing up for the 2020 census — a population count that occurs every decade.
In addition to being required by the Constitution, census results determine how much federal funding states receive annually. In Colorado, that’s about $13 billion. Furthermore, it’s a catalyst for redistricting, the process of drawing electoral district boundaries in the United States.
“The once-every-decade population count affects our representation in government. It determines how much funding the community receives, and it provides valuable data to help plan for our future,” said Kirk Hagaman with Jeffco Planning and Zoning.
