Mayoral candidate seeks balance between tourism, residential spending

Mike Kowalewski hopes if he is elected mayor of Idaho Springs that he can help balance city spending between tourism and locals, and bring the community together — something he believes is eroding.

“Idaho Springs doesn’t feel like a community anymore,” he said. “I want the community feeling back.”

Kowalewski’s name will be on the ballot for the April 7 election to recall Mayor Michael Hillman. If Idaho Springs voters decide to recall Hillman, Kowalewski is the only person running to fill the position.
