Local couples wed, renew vows at ski area's annual event

Lyn Darrell hitchhiked part of the way to his wedding in 1970. He was stationed at an Army post at the time but came back to Nebraska to marry his sweetheart, Linda.

On Valentine’s Day, the two lovebirds renewed their vows surrounded by family members at the proverbial top of the world — or at least, 12,050 feet above sea level.

“We couldn’t find a prettier place, could we?” Linda Darrell asked.

The Idaho Springs couple, who were celebrating their 50th anniversary, were among the estimated 80 couples who married or renewed vows Friday at Loveland Ski Area’s 29th annual Mountaintop Matrimony event.
