Evergreen Fire/Rescue put out a fire Thursday near North Turkey Creek and Gartner roads in Marshdale that gutted a home. The family made it out of the house safely, but the family dog, Breck, did not survive.

The call came in at 9:54 a.m. Thursday, and first responders were on scene for more than four hours. Crews remained on scene working hot spots.

According to Martin, the area doesn't have hydrants, so Evergreen Fire called for backup. Elk Creek, Inter-Canyon and Indian Hills fire departments assisted, as well as the Jeffco Sheriff's Office. In all, some 30 firefighters and 10 trucks were on the scene.
