24 canines are vying to become Evergreen's dog mayor

The candidates’ forum for the Evergreen dog mayor election on Monday was paws-itively congenial.


All 24 canine candidates were friendly, shaking paws, licking babies and showing off their manners. Not a mean bark out of any of them.

The voting continues in this hotly contested election for the dog mayor and deputy mayor positions, with the Evergreen Animal Protective League the real winner in this race.

The mayor and deputy mayor will be announced on Friday.

Whitman named Evergreen's dog mayor; Chuk now deputy mayor

The dogs rule in Evergreen now that Whitman the Newfoundland has been elected the honorary mayor with Chuk the chocolate Labrador as his deputy.


The winners of the inaugural honorary dog mayor election were announced Friday night on the patio at Cactus Jack’s Saloon & Grill. Soon after the announcement, the two were whisked off to their first public appearance at Evergreen Rotary’s Mardi Gras Festival at The Wild Game.
