Recall petition organizers: ‘It’s made the community pay attention’

With a blight study, a managed parking program and various construction projects going on last year, some Idaho Springs residents were upset.

Feeling they didn’t have a say about their city, Amanda Kowalewski, Janet Diederichs and Candace Voisard decided to act in November 2019 by organizing a petition to recall Mayor Mike Hillman.

Diederichs explained they were hoping to slow some things down, so the city would do everything properly and fairly.

“We don’t want to turn into Vail,” she said.
