The Evergreen Park & Recreation District hopes to open Evergreen Lake to both private and public boating by the end of May — with the safety of patrons in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the safety of the water supply of utmost priority.
District officials aren’t providing an exact date or hours that the lake will be open because they aren’t sure when protocols will be in place to make it happen.
Changes to boat rentals
EPRD is considering a watercraft reservation system, so patrons wouldn’t have to wait or be turned away from using the lake, EPRD Executive Director Ellen O’Connor said at the April 28 board meeting.
In addition, the staff is creating a system to disinfect rental boats between uses, and fewer rental boats will be available to keep with social-distancing practices.
