While Guanella Pass Road has reopened between Clear Creek and Park counties, officials announced that Mount Evans Highway would remain closed to motorized use this season because of COVID-19 impacts.
The highway will be open to hikers and bikers, although they are asked to avoid high-risk activities and be prepared for changes in weather conditions.
The U.S. Forest Service, Denver Mountain Parks and the Colorado Department of Transportation had pushed back the typical Memorial Day weekend opening to July 1, with the possibility of a full closure.
Reid Armstrong, USFS spokeswoman, said all agencies agreed to keep the highway closed for both health and fiscal reasons. With more than 200,000 people visiting the summit every year, it would be hard to maintain social distancing.
