The Mighty Argo’s gondola and other features could be operational late next summer after a final development plan was conditionally approved by the Idaho Springs City Council on May 26.
While there were concerns about the number of expected visitors and parking demands, the council voted 5-1 in favor of the plan. Arthur Caccavale voted no, and Bob Bowland, who’s an Argo co-owner, abstained.
At the same meeting, the public improvement agreement between Argo and the city was tabled because Mayor Mike Hillman wanted newer council members to have more time to learn the full history of the project, which is tied to the city’s Virginia Canyon Mountain Park. He said the council and Argo team would meet later to discuss the agreement.
