EPRD grapples with revenue shortage

The Evergreen Park & Recreation District, hampered by restrictions from the state, county and City of Denver that prevent it from reopening facilities to the public, must find ways to mitigate the weekly loss of revenue.

The way the district is operating now — losing about $30,000 a week — is unsustainable, board President Peter Lindquist said at the May 26 board meeting.

“We have to define the strategy we want to follow,” Lindquist said, “to hire as many folks as we can and to provide the services everybody has always expected of us. … Hope is not a strategy,” explaining that hoping that the district will be able to open more programs and facilities doesn’t help the rec district’s bottom line.
