Chris Burroughs knows the feeling all too well. He’s experienced it first-hand.
California-born but Colorado-raised, the culture shock experienced by the biracial 22-year-old activist and 2016 Evergreen High School graduate is like night and day. It totally floored him.
He was the target of bullying and racism simply for his appearance. The son of a white mother and black father, Burroughs has isolated himself with a close-knit group of friends. Still, the racial tension that has divided the country lately has opened up some of those old wounds.

The children and adults held signs and raised their fists in solidarity as vehicles drove by, honking their horns in support.
