Former Evergreen resident achieves the extremes in endurance sports

Born out of tragedy, Marshall Ulrich’s running career didn’t take long to morph into one of obsession.

With each new race, each new discipline, the 69-year-old former Clear Creek/Evergreen resident kept pushing his limits, sometimes beyond belief.

He recounts his adventures from small to harrowing in his new book, Both Feet on the Ground: Reflections from the Outside, which first published last year. In it, he describes how losing his first wife to cancer in 1978 ignited a running career unlike any other, one that took him to highest point on earth to the lowest point in North America.
