Based on determinations that the Spero Recovery Center was not a community use and not compatible with the surrounding neighborhood, the Jeffco Planning Commission on Tuesday night recommended 6-1 that the rezoning application be denied.

The Planning Commission, after 4-1/2 hours of questions and discussion, said the controversial proposal to rezone properties at 29997 and 29877 Buffalo Park Road from agricultural to planned development to allow for overnight lodging for the recovery community organization would have significant negative impacts on the health, safety and welfare of residents in the area.

The Planning Commission has met for more than 11 hours total over three nights and listened to 65 speakers, with neighbors protesting the center’s negative impact on their neighborhoods and quality of life, negatively impact property values and concerns about security and wildfire threat.
