Private Messages, or PMs, are a way to communicate with other members on the site in a more private manner. In order to access your Private Messages Inbox or Outbox, first go to your Profile Page , Click the Private Messages link at the top right hand corner of the forum page:

or Click on the 'Community' site menu option, then Select 'My Messages' under that:

Access your Inbox or Outbox by clicking on the drop-down menu underneath 'Your Messages'

To send a message to another user, go to their Profile Page (click on their username from a post on the forums or search for them by clicking the ' Community ' menu option.

Choose 'Send Private Message'. Alternatively, you can choose to send them an email directly.

You can send a message to multiple users at once. Simply Click on the 'Show Users' link.

This will display a Userlist drop-down menu

Scroll down until you locate the members you wish to message and click to select them as recipients.

Type your message in the dialog box. There is a character limit which will count down as you type (when someone replies, that message counts as well - you may need to delete older messages in a string of back-and-forth PMs in order to continue replying back. If you wish to have a copy sent to your Inbox, click the box underneath. Then hit Submit.

While messages are intended to be kept private, please keep in mind that if they are harassing or threatening, we ask that they be forwarded to our Road Crew staff so that we may address them with the sender. Violations of the Terms of Service are not permitted via Private Messages the same as they are not allowed publicly on the forums. We encourage everyone to be respectful of each other. Under no other circumstances will staff read any Private Messages.

One more thing to note concerning Private Messages: for some users our system did not default to the option that you would receive an email alert (it goes to the email address you used to create your user account) when you receive a Private Message here on My Mountain Town, so that you know to log in and check your messages. In order to turn on email alerts, simply go to your Private Messages Inbox, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, and Click on 'Settings'

If you see the dot in the 'No Email Notifications' box

and wish to receive email alerts, simply change the selection to one of these two and hit Save Changes

If you still do not receive email alerts, please check the email address you used to create your account - it may be that you need to update that. Go to your Profile Page, Click Edit, then Update Your Profile under that. Go to the Contact Info tab, change your email address, then scroll down and Hit Submit at the bottom of the page.

If that doesn't work, please email or call us and we'd be happy to help!
