There was some concern that a lump felt by Gary's doctor was cancer coming back. They tested and thank goodness it is not. HOWEVER, here's his update to me
"no cancer...lots of scar tissue from the radiation...during the last 4 or 5 treatments, i could feel, smell, and taste my flesh burning. the Dr. said he felt a small lump in my neck, and it turned out to be scar tissue. so far, the back of my throat is burnt and paralyzed, my epiglottis is not working properly, and now they are talking of some sort of throat prosthesis, which i will not entertain."
any way you look at it, it sucks.
FYI: The epiglottis is a flap that is made of elastic cartilage tissue covered with a mucous membrane, attached to the entrance of the larynx (the part that keeps food, etc from going down your trachea (wind pipe).
