At least five wildfires are burning along the Royal Gorge and U.S. 50 west of Canon City, the Fremont County Sheriff's Office said this afternoon.

Andrea Cooper, spokeswoman for the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, said that the fires are spread out along a stretch of railroad tracks west of the southcentral Colorado town.

She said firefighters from the sheriff's department, Canon City, the Bureau of Land Management and two rural fire departments have responded.
