First-ever nationwide test of Emergency Alert System set for Wednesday. :crossed:
When millions of Americans hear that warning at 2 p.m. ET Wednesday, the words will sound familiar, but the occasion will be historic. It will mark the first-ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, a system with Cold War roots that enables the president to address the American public within 10 minutes from any location at any time.

As part of their ongoing efforts to keep our country and communities safe during emergencies, the Federal Communications Commission and Federal Emergency Management Agency will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on November 9 at 12 p.m. MDT.
The EAS test plays a key role in ensuring the nation is prepared for all hazards, and that the U.S. public can receive critical and vital information, should it ever be needed. The first nationwide test will be conducted Wednesday, November 9 at 12 p.m. MDT. This test may last up to three and a half minutes, and will be transmitted via television and radio stations within the U.S., including Alaska, Hawaii, the territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.
Similar to local emergency alert system tests, an audio message will interrupt television and radio programming indicating: “This is a test.” When the test is over, regular programming will resume. Different about this EAS is that the test will last a little longer - about three minutes. In addition, due to technical limitations, a visual message indicating that "this is a test" may not appear on every television channel, especially for cable subscribers. For these reasons we are taking extra steps to educate the public, especially people with hearing disabilities, that this is only a test.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
Oh well, back to the drawing board. Better luck next time!
"DENVER -- A test of the national emergency alert system (EAS) on Wednesday was a failure.
While many television, radio and cable stations aired the message, others did not."
"The New York Times reported some odd problems like some DirecTV subscribers who said their TV sets played the Lady Gaga song "Paparazzi" when the test was under way"
