Wily, maybe you could please channel this question to The IREA MAN: Question, Could you please tell us (what you're allowed too), Just what are these "Smart Meters" and just how much radition is being output?

Are you talking about wireless transmissions TPP ?

I wouldn't think it would be comparable to laptops or cell phones in close proximity. Unless you stand out in the backyard with your head next to the smart meter for long periods of time. :)

Seriously TPP, I had never heard of this danger specifically for smart meters, which are pretty new.

RF hazards from Cell phones is still undecided too I think.

I did read one of your links (earthcalm) and it looked like they were selling some kind of questionable $300 protection device, looked flaky. But if you find out more, let me know.

If you are on public water and have the meter inside your house, that meter may also have a transmitter on it. (it pings out a signal every 3 seconds at .3 watts)

Try it. Although you may fool the transmitter, the meter still physically reads the consumption (dials). Utility companies perform manual audits and will eventually back bill you based on the physical read.
