Farm girl, I wish I'd read this sooner. I got ten today. I do have a pretty big area for them. I am zoned AG2, so I think I'm OK. I bought a big barrel and a heat lamp for them. I got the medicated food and shavings for them. A feeder and waterer. I'll do my best to care for them. The coop is completely covered to keep out undesirables.

Remember one thing..Animals will dig all night to get a plump juicy chicken. You may have to electrify

I'll tell ya a true story..I mistakenly built my coup on the north side of our ranch, big mistake. We went to Hawaii (January 93 maybe) and when we were there we had a tremendous cold snap here..Its was like -20 or something the night we got home and the next morning when I checked on the birds some of them were frozen dead, laying on thier backs and sides, legs up and everything..I mean frozen dead eyes starring at me.. I picked one up and it was hard as a rock and I tossed it into the corner..I turned on the heat and returned later to clean up and they were all alive..These 3 or 4 birds thawed out and they were alive and well

Very resiliant

FarmGirl, Paca suggested you might be able to help me clip their wings so they can't fly?

O BTW, puppies are really gentle, and Kimba is just afraid of them, but she's just a large rat anyway!
