That story has a few problems. They pulled out then went right away and built in GJ. Me thinks Wheatridge got greedy.
Also heard a local lawyer that had property adjoing the property to be built on got all the neigbors together and wanted Cabela's to buy them out at some ridiculous price, and if they didn't they would sue.
So,,,

I'm sure there was a lot more to it than what the story included.

From 9 news, it looks like a mint was spent in preparation for it in WheatRidge. Must have gotten a sweeter deal elsewhere.

WheatRidge kept changing the rules, amending this, adding that. Cabela's finally got tired of playing and bailed. A friend lives between 32nd and the proposed site - she told me that that entire neighborhood was fighting the development. If I was in the store's position I think I'd have told them buh-bye, too.

Since that area was my old stomping ground (many moons ago).........it was my understanding also......Wheatridge residents did NOT
want the noise, traffic problems, light pollution and the general upheaval that goes with a large complex being built within a basically
RESIDENTIAL portion of the area. Applewood, the Golf course and surrounding subdivisions in that area are somewhat "established old
but solidly middle class/upper middle class. (at least it was before the financial crash of 08.,not sure what the area draws NOW).......
A sad,bitter lesson for Wheatridge officials......c.y.a..........FIRST rule of business.JMO

homeagain, since residents in the area didn't want Cabela's will they object to other businesses?

The new rumour about the Cabela's Wheatridge site is that Wal-Mart is going to move across the street and expand.

One thing Cabela's and other retail stores are doing is reducing their size. The new Cabelas are going to be much smaller than the original plans for Wheatridge. Wal-Mart is also looking at building smaller stores, as is Best Buy.

Wow, would rather a Cabela's than Wal-Mart.
