Word Starring

Word Starring was created by MyMountainTown
In an effort to save some time, and in regards to a recent topic on the subject, we are changing our word censoring from a manual system to an automatic one. Everyone should be defaulted into seeing the few words we normally censor to appear as censored and they will appear the same way, with only stars added, not the words changed say from "pissed" to [urined], as when we censor them manually.

You yourself can choose whether to have this censoring enabled or not. If you don't mind seeing them, or would prefer to see words uncensored, you can change the settings in your User Control Panel. Please keep in mind that this means that the words are censored across the board - if you leave the word censoring enabled, they will also be censored in the Ring, and if you turn it off, you will be able to see them as they were typed by the poster in the Campfire because our system cannot separate out by forum.

To change the default settings, click the User Control Panel link at the top right hand corner of the forum page, then follow the prompts here:

We want to reassure you again that this is not a change in policy, just a change in it being done automatically instead of manually and the words that are censored will appear as they do now with stars substituted for letters as we've previously asked. Thank you!

Should be the opposite.
Stick up the butt assholes should "ask" for censorship, Adults will just live with reality.
Good idea but wrong in the execution of the new policy.
The "offended" should be the ones to take an action. Why make us change our preferences when we have no problem. Make the prudes say they are prudes and can't live in the real world.
Wrong!

What the f*** - now I have to test this approach to see what the hell it does with some of the batsh** crazy stuff some people post in here? Or some of the common terms that can be easily misconstrued? Damn!

Can the cock still crow in the morning? Or will that piss off those who wish to sleep late? How about those who enjoy a cocktail after work?

Will those niggardly posters who value economy be auto-moderated for their niggardliness?

If I stutter when posting the name of my late cat Pisstol, will I get slapped in the assterisk for that? Not sure I even want to test what happens if I misspell a river in West Africa.

:jk2:

I'm not sure if there is any way to tell, but I'm betting that if the default were the other way around, as jmc suggested, there would be very few who would change it, tho some would probably complain about it.

Seems like a good approach to me, SC! It will be interesting to see what the unintended consequences may be.
