Only the historically and commonly starred out words were put into the system, not the ones we didn't normally do. We didn't want to go overboard into candyland with it.
jmc, I understand your issue, and appreciate your position, but I don't think it's a big deal for anyone to change, and the default protects us without going too far into ridiculous. Nothing's changed - the words would've been starred anyway (except in the Ring) so it's how you would've seen them before too, it's just now it frees up the admins' time to go do more productive things - like installing webcams everywhere, videotaping meetings, and more that helps this site grow and provide even more to its members and community! :woo hoo:

I knew this was going to happen. Good thing it is defaulted for on. JMC you should be happy. The f word is going to show up in the campfire now, if you turn the censor off. You got your wish.

Can the cock still crow in the morning? Or will that piss off those who wish to sleep late? How about those who enjoy a cocktail after work?
Will those niggardly posters who value economy be auto-moderated for their niggardliness?
If I stutter when posting the name of my late cat Pisstol, will I get slapped in the assterisk for that? Not sure I even want to test what happens if I misspell a river in West Africa.

I'm not sure if there is any way to tell, but I'm betting that if the default were the other way around, as jmc suggested, there would be very few who would change it, tho some would probably complain about it.
Seems like a good approach to me, SC! It will be interesting to see what the unintended consequences may be.
Now this post is not starred.

Why would that make jmc happy?
I may have read it wrong but I thought jmc merely wanted those who might be offended to take own their own responsibility.
