How old is too old to breastfeed?

This is not a model. It's a 26-year-old mother with her nearly 4-year-old child who still breastfeeds as part of "attachment parenting." It is the latest issue of TIME Magazine.

16 is too old to breastfeed- they call it somthing else after that.

I have a friend who still breastfeeds her almost 3 year old.

If they are old enough to ask for it, it is time to stop. (That is what my mom says, but I was bottle fed so I don't know how she knows that.)

That kid looks a little tall to still be breast feeding.

Where is the daddy?

I would think he would want his toys back after 3 years.

That isn't real is it? I don't think Time would let that be on their cover.

I know a kid that was breastfed on occasion until 5 years old - I was shocked but 10 years later there is zero impact to the kid. So my views have changed.

Every child is unique, as is every parent. Good parenting is doing what feels right for each parent and child. I hate it when anyone outside that unique relationship passes judgement. Unless, of course, the child is being abused. Attachment parenting works for some, not for others. Just like pretty much anything in life.

What would another parent do when their kid is playing with the 4 year old and is invited over for lunch?
